Wem gehört das Rosaleda-Stadion? Nicht dem Málaga CF, sondern zu gleichen Teilen der Stadt, der Provinzverwaltung und der andalusischen Regionalregierung.

Zwischen 2000 und 2006 wurde die Rosaleda auf einen Schlag modernisiert: Dächer über den Tribünen, VIP-Logen, die heutige Kapazität von gut 30.000 Sitzplätzen. 1982 liefen hier drei Gruppenspiele der Weltmeisterschaft, darunter das Duell zwischen der Sowjetunion und Schottland, das 2:2 endete. Sechs Jahre zuvor, 1976, trug Real Madrid hier ein Rückspiel im Landesmeisterpokal gegen Brügge aus, verbannt aus dem eigenen Stadion durch eine UEFA-Sperre.

Fußball ist nicht das Einzige, was hier für ausverkaufte Ränge sorgte.

Der nächste Umbau ist bereits benannt – Nueva Rosaleda soll die Arena mit Blick auf die Weltmeisterschaft 2030 auf 45.000 Plätze bringen und vollständig überdachen, ein Projekt mit einem Preisschild von rund 271,7 Millionen Euro.
