Der Name des Stadions verweist auf das Viertel, in dem es steht: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stammt aus Kasımpaşa, und die Anlage in Beyoğlu, die zuvor Kasımpaşa Stadyumu hieß, trägt seither seinen Namen. Vor dem Bau lag an dieser Stelle ein Leichtathletikplatz des Bezirks; zwischen 2004 und 2005 entstand darauf das heutige Stadion, eröffnet wurde es am 27. August 2005.

2010 baute die Erus-Gruppe das Stadion um, damit es den Anforderungen der UEFA genügt. Erneuert wurden die Sitze auf den Rängen und die Stahlkonstruktion; verlegt wurde damals Kunstrasen, gespielt wird inzwischen wieder auf Naturrasen.

Endspiele des Landesverbands oder Turnierpartien internationaler Wettbewerbe hat der Platz nicht gesehen. Er bleibt, was er seit 2005 ist: die Spielstätte zweier Istanbuler Vereine, gebaut auf dem Grund eines Sportplatzes und benannt nach einem Mann aus derselben Straßenzeile.
