Sportovní hala TJ Náchod
Náchod, Tschechien
The Sportovní hala TJ Náchod is a modest hall on Na Hamrech 2001 that opened in 1973. Its own identity comes from the wooden parquet floor, the same floor where a Czechoslovakia–Soviet Union exhibition match marked the opening. The hall does not hide its age: the planks underneath kept their original sound.
Inside, the space is flat and rectangular. The stands rise along the long sides, and the seats are arranged in simple rows. The hall is small enough that the ball bounces back to you before you have time to think about it.
It is used for handball, floorball, table tennis and squash. The only tournament that gives it a particular shape is the Polanka Cup: the hall hosted the finals in 2016, 2021 and 2024. Those years are not celebrated but they are recorded — the same way the wooden floor records every step.
The complex at Na Hamrech also includes a swimming pool opened in 1990 and the Stadion Hamra stadium from the 1970s. The hall is part of a larger sports quarter that does not try to impress. It fills its purpose: a place where a ball moves across a floor and people watch it.
Capacity: 500 spectators
