Über den Spieler
Bevor Estupiñán bei einem europäischen Grossklub landete, führte sein Weg über eine ganze Reihe von Stationen, die er nur geliehen durchlief. Er wurde nacheinander an Granada B, Granada CF, UD Almería, RCD Mallorca und CA Osasuna verliehen, ehe Villarreal ihn 2020 fest verpflichtete.
2022 folgte der Schritt zu Brighton & Hove Albion, wo er sich als linker Aussenverteidiger etablierte: 84 Premier-League-Einsätze, davon 72 in der Startelf, und vier Tore stehen zu Buche. Im Juli 2025 wechselte er für eine gemeldete Ablöse von rund 17 Millionen Euro zu AC Milan – als erster ecuadorianischer Spieler in der Geschichte des Klubs.
International zählt Estupiñán zu den festen Grössen Ecuadors: 56 Länderspiele und fünf Tore stehen für ihn zu Buche, dazu gehörte er zum Kader für die Weltmeisterschaft 2022. Bei der Copa América 2021 wurde er ins Team des Turniers gewählt, ein Beleg für seine starke Vorstellung in jenem Sommer.
Bei Milan hat er sich seither einen festen Platz erarbeitet. Bis September 2026 kam er für die Rossoneri auf 24 Einsätze und ein Tor.
