Houston Astros kept the series alive with a 2:0 victory over Chicago White Sox in the regular season on Wednesday evening. The hosts bounced back from their previous night's heavy 1:5 defeat to take the upper hand once more.
It was a different sort of match from the one two nights ago when White Sox ran up five runs against Houston. By then the visitors had looked sharp, but tonight the Astros were the ones who felt the pressure and came through. A fourth straight win would have been nice, but they settled for keeping things level.
The White Sox had come into this game with momentum after their 5:1 triumph on Tuesday. They'd also shown glimpses of form against the Twins with a 3:2 win on August 29, though they'd dropped a 7:4 match on the same day. To be fair, this wasn't the kind of night where either side got much going.
What matters here is the swing rather than the final number. Houston lose one game, White Sox take it, then the hosts respond. That's how these series work — nobody gets comfortable for long.
Neither side has much to write home about right now. Houston remain uneven, White Sox similarly so. The next game will tell you more about who's actually playing well.
