Dugopolje and Kuštanja Share Points in First NLP Opener
Dugopolje and Kuštanja played out a 1:1 draw in the first round of the First NLP regular season on Friday. M. Caktas opened the scoring just before half-time, but D. Zabec equalised early in the second period. The result leaves both sides with a point after the opening match.And here's the thing — the opener was decided in two fairly brief spells. Caktas found the net in the 46th minute after stoppage time, catching the defence off guard. Kuštanja responded quickly, with Zabec finding space to level the score in the 54th. By then, both teams had made changes, but the momentum had already shifted.
To be fair, the game opened with a flurry of substitutions. Kuštanja brought on B. Ghussein and L. Dukic at the break, perhaps looking to catch Dugopolje napping. Instead, the visitors took the lead through Zabec, who was later replaced at the hour mark alongside J. Dolezal and M. Zalazar. Dugopolje also made a change, removing Caktas after his goal.
The statistics tell a story of contrasting approaches. Dugopolje controlled 54 per cent of possession and launched 171 attacks, yet managed only two shots on target. Kuštanja, with less ball, were more clinical — four shots on target from 10 attempts. Both sides picked up a booking, with L. Kuvacic and T. Krizmanic cautioned in the second half.
There were several more substitutions as the game wore on. Dugopolje brought on A. Zivkovic and A. Pokrajcic in the 77th minute, while Kuštanja made two changes — N. Sunjic and H. Kozarac — to see out the final stages. Neither side could find a winner, and the points were shared.
In the table, Dugopolje sit fourth after three matches, with one victory and two draws for five points. Kuštanja occupy 14th place, having drawn twice and lost once for two points. The result does little to change either side's trajectory, but it sets the tone for what could be a tight season.
Both teams will be looking to build on this opening effort. Dugopolje's home form has been mixed, while Kuštanja's away record offers little comfort. Cup football has its own rules, and this league will likely follow a similar pattern — tight, cautious, and decided by moments rather than sustained dominance.
