Dukla Banská Bystrica

The one league title Dukla Banská Bystrica has ever won came in 1982–83, in the Slovak section of the Czechoslovak league, back when the club still wore its army colours and trained under the discipline of a military side. That championship remains the high point of a story that has otherwise been built in cup competitions: the club took the Slovak Cup in 1981, reached the final again in 1970, 1984 and 1999, and came back to lift it once more in 2005, the same year it lost the Slovak Super Cup final to Artmedia Petržalka.

The club was founded on 1 July 1965 as VTJ Dukla Banská Bystrica, a team attached to the Czechoslovak army, and carried that military identity through several renamings — AS Dukla in 1967, ASVS Dukla in 1975 — before the fall of communism cut the link to the armed forces and the club became FK Dukla in 1992. The nickname Vojaci, the Soldiers, has outlasted every version of the badge. In 2017 the original club went bankrupt and was merged with third-tier side ŠK Kremnička; the new entity, MFK Dukla Banská Bystrica, kept the academy and the name but had to work its way back up through the lower divisions.

Roberto Poliyevka is the closest thing the modern club has to a talisman: an academy graduate who left and came back, he has scored 79 goals in 149 matches since 2018 and is the top scorer of this current era. Saša Savić gave the club over a decade at the back, 251 appearances across eleven years, and when he left in 2020 Dukla retired his number 34.

Home games are played at Štadión SNP Štiavničky, reduced by reconstruction from an old capacity of 10,000 down to 7,030. The fiercest of them come against FK Železiarne Podbrezová, a fixture known locally as the Horehronské derby, named for the region both clubs share.
