«White Angels»
What stands instead is the record the club built against the rest of Czechoslovakia. The run began under Anton Malatinský , whose side reached the semi-final of the European Cup in 1968–69.
Malatinský's name went onto the stadium in 1998. The reconstruction ran from 2013 to 2015 and left an 18,200-seat arena, which is why the place is often called City Arena.
The club that won those titles had been through eight name changes by then. It started in 1923 as ŠK Rapid Trnava, passed through the factory-sponsored labels of the socialist decades — Kovosmalt, TAZ, ZŤS all took their turn in the title — and became Spartak in 1952. The current form, FC Spartak Trnava, dates from 1993.
In that league Spartak waited a long time. The championship of 2017–18 was the first in 45 years.
Home shirts are red and black stripes with black shorts. The away kit is white throughout, and it is the white one the nickname comes from — Bíli anjeli, the White Angels.
