Dunajska Streda

In 1987, a club from a town on the Danube in southern Slovakia lifted the Czechoslovak Cup, then the biggest prize the country had to offer, and added the Slovak Cup the same year. Nearly four decades on, it remains the highest point in the history of FC DAC 1904.

The town is Dunajská Streda, on Žitný ostrov, the river island in the Hungarian-speaking south of Slovakia. The club was founded there in 1904 as Dunaszerdahelyi Atlétikai Club, and the yellow and blue on its shirts represent the sun and the water of that island.

A Slovak league title has never followed. What has followed, repeatedly, is second place: DAC finished runner-up in the Slovak top flight in 2018/19, 2020/21, 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2025/26. The rest of its honours board is domestic — a second-division title in 1998/99 and again in 2012/13, plus a group win in the old Intertoto Cup in 1992.

Home games are played at MOL Aréna, 12,700 seats, all of them seated. UEFA's sponsorship rules strip the naming-rights sponsor from the sign on European nights, so the same stadium hosts the same team as DAC Aréna.

Derby day against Spartak Trnava draws the sharpest reaction locally; the meetings with Komárno, played out on the same river island that gave the club its colours, are billed as the derby for Žitný ostrov.

Five silver medals. Not one gold.
