Milton Keynes Dons played out a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town in League One's second round on Friday evening. The result leaves the hosts rooted to the bottom of the table while the visitors extend their unbeaten start to four games.
Joe Taylor gave the visitors the lead nine minutes in, finishing from a well-worked move. Huddersfield looked the more dangerous side early on, pressing high and forcing the home defence into hurried clearances. Aaron Collins equalised fifty-four minutes later, heading home after a scramble in the box.
By then Huddersfield had already created seven big chances and missed them all. They dominated possession in the second half and kept coming forward, but the goalkeeper held firm. And here's the thing — three shots on target from eleven attempts is hardly a blueprint for victory.
There were substitutions all around the eighty-minute mark. Ashley Fletcher came on for MK Dons, while Derensili Sanches Fernandes replaced Collins. Two yellow cards — Bojan Radulović and David Kasumu — added to the tension as the game wore on.
Statistics tell a familiar story. MK Dons had 53 per cent of the ball and 128 attacks, but only one big chance. Huddersfield had 47 per cent possession and 15 shots, eight on target, yet could not find the net a second time.
To be fair, the home side did not look like folding. They won 69 aerial duels, made 30 clearances, and saw the game out without panic. Huddersfield remain top with ten points, but this was a night where the table goes out of the window.
