Sportpark de Vlotter
Heemskerk, Netherlands
Then there is the pitch itself, set in a bowl of green.
The ground has been here since 1956, but the current look is a result of a renovation that took place recently. The money for the work came from a player leaving for the German Bundesliga. The club handed over a young prospect to FC Augsburg, and the transfer fee paid for the new stand, which was then named after the player. The money went straight into the building.
ADO '20 plays here in the Tweede Divisie, and the women's side does too. The surface underneath is artificial turf, which stays green through the winter. The club does not play under a sponsored name and has kept the name Sportpark de Vlotter since it opened. The name comes from a manor house that once stood in the area.
It is not the largest ground in the country, and it does not hold a record crowd that would make headlines. It is a local ground for a local team, and it does not pretend to be anything else.
