Consistency has been the harder target: after the 2005 championship run, the South Siders have leaned on stretches of contention broken up by long rebuilds.
Ownership dates the club to 1901, when it entered the American League as a founding franchise, and the résumé since carries the weight that comes with it: three World Series titles, in 1906 against the crosstown Cubs, in 1917, and in 2005 against Houston. Between the first and the last sits the 1919 Black Sox Scandal, when eight players were banned for life over a fixed World Series.
Frank Thomas built his Hall of Fame case in a White Sox uniform. Every summer the rivalry with the Cubs resurfaces as the Crosstown Classic.
Home games are played under the black, silver and white now tied to a ballpark that has worn several corporate names since it opened, seating 40,615.
