Sogndal ran riot against Fjörður at Fosshaugane Campus on Thursday evening, running out 8-0 winners in the first round of the Norwegian Cup. The visitors made it four goals inside the first half, and by then the match had already slipped beyond recovery. And here's the thing — this wasn't a contest so much as a statement.
K. Skaanes opened the scoring in the 36th minute, and two minutes later T. Pippola doubled the advantage. Pippola added a second of his own before half-time, then E. Hovland rounded off the first-half barrage in stoppage time. Four goals in what amounted to a single period of play.
The second half brought no respite. O. Helen struck three times across the final twenty minutes — in the 69th, 74th and 89th minutes — while an unnamed scorer found the net in the 90th minute plus three. To be fair, Fjörður gave nothing away in terms of chances, but that was hardly surprising.
