The Polideportivo León Coundou seats 3,200. Deportivo San José grew out of the Colegio San José, and the students who first put a team together took the sixth-level title in 1965 before pushing into the top flight the following year — and stayed there ever since.

Nineteen absolute championships in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol have followed, stretching from 1991 to 2024, though the recent run stands apart: San José swept both the Apertura and Clausura in 2022, 2023 and 2024, a run built around Franco Benítez, who collected seven championships between 2019 and 2024 and was repeatedly named the finals' most valuable player. Daniel Cano, an Argentine from Formosa, has overseen much of that stretch on the bench.

El Santo, as the club is known, has made a habit of splitting Paraguayan basketball with Olimpia Kings; between them the two clubs have taken most of the league's silverware for years, and a meeting between them still tends to be the game that settles where a title goes. San José tested that dominance outside the country too, topping their group at the 2022 Liga Sudamericana de Baloncesto without going on to win the tournament.

The club carries the season on its shoulders again now.
