AGF Women

Cecilie Aastrup Nielsen, Josefine Videbæk and the rest of the squad Jes Nielsen sends out most weekends are still playing under a name that once topped Danish women's handball. The handball department grew out of Aarhus Gymnastikforening in 1935, and for a stretch in the 1940s AGF's women were the best in the country, taking the national title in 1941–42 and again in 1948–49. The team now works its way through the second-tier 1. Division.

Aarhus Håndbold, formed when the top women's side merged in 2024, carries the higher profile now, and meetings between the two are treated locally as a straightforward city derby, even without a formal name attached to it.

Home games are played in front of no more than 1,500 people, in a hall named for the club's old colours — white and navy, the same shades that gave AGF's sides across every sport the nickname "The Whites" long before this particular handball team was founded.

They play out of Hal 1 at Ceres Park, tucked inside the same Aarhus sports complex that has hosted the club's football side for decades, a modest venue for a team still chasing the standard it set eight decades ago.
