Sik Viborg Women

Søndermarkens Idrætsklub was set up in Viborg as a neighbourhood sports society, and the handball section grew out of that parent body. The club was formed in November 1938 and still describes itself as a breddeklub, a broad club: its priorities are social life and bringing up young players, not a place in the top flight.

The women's side plays in the 1. Division, the second tier of Danish women's handball, in Liseborg Hallen, a local sports hall. During the pandemic, spectator numbers there were capped at 100. In the same city, Viborg HK plays in the BioCirc Arena, which holds about 3,000.

The two clubs are not derby rivals. Ann Grete Nørgaard started at SIK from 1992 to 1997 and then moved to Viborg HK, later becoming a Danish national team player. Julie Boendorf Johansen followed the same route, starting at SIK and now playing for Viborg HK. Hjalte Sinding left SIK for Bjerringbro-Silkeborg Håndbold. Traffic also runs the other way, since Karoline Fahlberg came to SIK from Viborg HK's youth system.

SIK has never won a major national title and has never played in the Damehåndboldligaen, the top division.
