About the player
Muhammed Mehmet Damar was born in Berlin and holds dual German and Turkish citizenship, but he has consistently chosen Germany at international level, turning down interest from the Turkish federation. Eintracht Frankfurt's academy took him on in 2020. Hoffenheim signed him in July 2022, and he made his senior debut for the club that August, in a 3-1 Bundesliga defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
His path to regular football ran through loan spells rather than a straight breakthrough. Sent to Hannover 96 for 2023-2024, he barely featured for the senior 2. Bundesliga team but was prolific for the reserves in the Regionalliga Nord, scoring nine goals in eight matches and netting the opener in the game that clinched the division title against Eimsbütteler TV. A second loan, to SV Elversberg in 2024-2025, gave him the senior football he had been missing: he made 31 league appearances and scored nine goals as a key creative presence in the side.
Damar has been capped by Germany at U18, U19, U20 and U21 level, though he has not yet received a senior call-up. In July 2026, he left Hoffenheim on a permanent transfer to VfL Wolfsburg, signing a five-year contract.
