Mattias Olof Svanberg

Mattias Svanberg grew up in Malmö and went through the city's own football pipeline almost from the start, moving from Bunkeflo IF to IF Limhamn Bunkeflo before joining Malmö FF's academy in 2013. He signed an apprenticeship deal with the club's senior side in 2015 and a first-team contract in March 2016, a rise that paid off quickly: he was part of the Malmö FF squads that won the Allsvenskan in both 2016 and 2017, contributing 5 goals in 36 league appearances for the club.

Bologna took him to Italy in the summer of 2018 for a €5 million fee, and Svanberg spent four seasons there, making 118 league appearances and scoring 9 goals. That form led Wolfsburg to sign him in July 2022 on a five-year contract, reported at between €8 million and €10 million. He has since made 104 league appearances for the German club, scoring 11 goals, and remains part of the squad after Wolfsburg's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga following a 16th-place finish and a lost relegation playoff in 2025–26; his contract runs to June 2027.

Internationally, Svanberg made an instant mark on his senior Sweden debut, scoring against the Faroe Islands in a Euro 2020 qualifier in November 2019. He later found the net against Mexico in a 2022 friendly and against Tunisia at the 2026 World Cup, taking his tally to 3 goals in 43 caps. He was part of the Swedish squads at both Euro 2020 and the 2026 World Cup.
