About the player
Maxime Hautbois never had to look far for his career: born in Laval, he came up through the town's own club, joining the Stade Lavallois academy in 2001 after starting out at US Entrammes. He made his senior debut for Laval in 2010 and stayed eight years, good enough that in the 2017–18 season he was voted the second-best goalkeeper in the Championnat National.
His first spell at the club ended in a dispute rather than a farewell: asked to take a pay cut in contract talks, Hautbois refused and walked away as a free agent to join Lyon-La Duchère, where he made 81 appearances between 2018 and 2021. In July 2021 he went back to Laval on a free transfer, and the timing worked out well — the following season he won the Championnat National title with the club, sending them up to Ligue 2.
He has since become a fixture of Laval's cup runs. During the 2023–24 Coupe de France campaign he played a key role as the club knocked out Ligue 1 side Nantes in the round of 32, then backed that up with a strong performance in the round of 16 against Puy Foot. He has not been capped by France at any level.
