Achilles Veen

Achilles Veen folded once, in 1939, when the economic crisis emptied the club's coffers. It came back on 7 June 1944, put together by local youths, and that is the date the Dutch football association recognises as the club's founding, even though a side called Achilles had already played under that name in the Bossche Voetbal Bond from 1932 and won district titles in 1935 and 1937.

The club plays in green and white and, since 2025, in the Vierde Divisie. It is the sort of level where a district cup run counts as a season's highlight: in 2019/20 Achilles Veen reached the quarter-finals of the regional KNVB Beker, and in 2008/09 the competition brought a tie against RKC Waalwijk.

Sportpark De Hanen Weide, home since 2013, gave the club its closest thing to a nickname — De Hanen, the Roosters, a name members chose by vote for the ground itself rather than for the team. No official nickname has stuck to the players.

Kevin Vermeulen, who came through Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk before playing for Achilles Veen, is a player who moved between levels.
