Two clubs from the same corner of Fulda decided in 2018 that they needed to merge: TSV Lehnerz, founded in 1965, and SC Borussia Fulda, whose history stretched back to 1904, merged their first teams under a name that borrows from the city itself. Fulda markets itself as a Baroque city, and SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz took the word as its own, folding Lehnerz's white into Borussia's red for the home stripes and leaving Borussia to carry on separately in the lower amateur tiers.

A run to the semi-finals of the Hessenpokal in 2023-24 ended on penalties against Kickers Offenbach.

Home games are played at the Stadion Richard-Müller-Straße inside the Sportpark Johannisau, a ground that holds around 2,200.

Marvin Pourié arrived in 2025 with a 3. Liga Player of the Season award already on his record, but it is Benjamin Fuß, at the club through its first six years from 2018 to 2024 and a 3. Liga player before that, who is remembered as the man who carried Barockstadt through the seasons when the merger was still finding its feet.
