Bedworth United

Bedworth United have been Bedworth United since 1968, but the name on the shirt has changed four times before that: Bedworth Town folded in 1900, came back in 1905, folded and returned again in 1925 and 1947. The current club was formed the year that last version went under.

The record crowd at The Oval, 5,147, has nothing to do with a cup run or a promotion push. It came for a derby against Nuneaton Borough in 1982, the same year Bedworth reached the Southern League Premier Division for the first time and finished fifth in it the following season. They have returned to that level three times this century, in 2012, 2015 and 2018, each time by way of the play-offs, and each time they came back down again. They now play in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands.

Keith Scott spent a single season at Bedworth, 1987–88, before moving on to a Football League career at Swindon Town and Norwich City. Richard Landon went the other way in 1994, sold to Plymouth Argyle for £30,000.

Green shirts and white shorts gave the club its nickname, the Greenbacks.
