BTS Neustadt

Christine Frai played for BTS Neustadt's women's side between 1980 and 1986, in Athens in 2004, when she became the first German woman to referee at an Olympic Games. The team she came through was Bremen champion twice in that decade, in 1983 and 1984, and reached the final rounds of the German women's championship.

The club itself dates its own history to 1859, the founding year of Bremer Turngemeinde, even though BTS Neustadt as such was only formed on 1 January 1972, when Bremer Turngemeinde merged with TuS Bremen-Neustadt, a body founded in 1893. Home matches are played at the Sportanlage Erlenstraße in the Neustadt district of Bremen, a ground holding 2,500, in the club's red, white and black.

On the pitch, the men's side has spent most of its life a division or two below Bremen's top table, with two spells worth noting. Promotion arrived in 1994 into the newly formed Oberliga Niedersachsen/Bremen, where the club stayed two seasons, and the Verbandsliga Bremen title of 1998/99 sent it back up again. After years in the lower reaches, it returned to the Bremen-Liga, now known as the Oberliga Bremen, in 2014 and has not dropped out since, finishing fourth in 2021/22.

Staying in that division keeps two fixtures on the calendar every year: against TuS Schwachhausen and against Brinkumer SV, both local derbies between Bremen's northern districts.
