No fixture on the calendar in Rüsselsheim carries more weight than the one against the Mainz Golden Eagles, played out under the label "Prestigeduell der Landeshauptstädte".
The Crusaders trace back to 6 February 1981, and by 1990 they had reached the 1. Bundesliga Süd, then the top division, where a single season produced a 0-12 record and no return visit. The club folded in 1996.
The Hessenpokal wins of 2025 and 2026, both finals settled against the Hanau Hornets.
Matches are played at the Stadion am Sommerdamm, holding around 4,200. Maroon and white remain the colours on the shirt today.
