Fc Luanda

FC Luanda are heading back into the Girabola for the 2026/2027 campaign after beating Sporting de Luanda in a promotion playoff.

The gap between those two points in the club's history is the story. FC Luanda began as filial nº 5 of FC Porto, formed on 31 January 1935. Under colonial rule it belonged to the same bracket as Sport Luanda e Benfica and Sporting Clube de Luanda, taking the Campeonato Distrital de Luanda in 1941 and 1965 and the Segunda Divisão do Provincial de Angola in 1974.

Independence in 1975 emptied the club of the Portuguese expatriates who had run it, the civil war followed, and the Cidadela was nationalised by the new Angolan government. FC Luanda's senior team effectively went dark for a generation.

Home games are now played at the Estádio França N'dalu, which holds around 21,000. There is no confirmed kit colour on record, though the Porto lineage points toward blue and white. What matters for now is simpler: after finally getting past Sporting de Luanda, a rival from the old distrital days, FC Luanda have a Girabola season to prepare for, and a club to rebuild to match it.
