Grindsted

Grindsted sits in the middle of Southwest Jutland, and for most of Denmark's handball history the town has been better known for its clubs from Kolding or Skjern than for its own. Working its way up from Serie 1, the sixth tier, in 2016, through the 2nd Division in 2018, into the 1. Division two years later.

The club is the handball department of a wider sports association founded in September 1902, and it stayed fully amateur through most of that climb. Even after adopting a professional structure in 2023, GGIF initially declined to sign players to contracts. The squad that won the 1. Division Herrer in 2024 and took the club into the Herre Håndbold Ligaen for the first time was built mainly from local talent and players drawn from the lower divisions, several of whom kept their day jobs alongside training.

President Flemming Pedersen and head coach Jacob Vinholt Pedersen, his son, both came through KIF Kolding before taking charge at Grindsted, and it was under Vinholt Pedersen that the newly promoted side reached the semifinals of the Danish Cup in its first top-flight season. Grindsted lost that semifinal to Bjerringbro-Silkeborg and then the bronze match to SønderjyskE, but stayed up only by winning a relegation playoff against Skive fH after surviving direct relegation on the last day of the regular season.

Home games are played at Lynghallen, extended to 700 or 800 for the biggest occasions. A season on from that cup run, the story turned: GGIF finished bottom of the league phase in 2025-26 and dropped back to the 1. Division, leaving the club still without a national league or cup title to its name.
