Halsteren

RKSV Halsteren needed two goals and extra time to do it, but on a February evening in 1990 the club from Sportpark De Beek beat NAC Breda 2–1 in the second round of the KNVB Cup — an Eredivisie side knocked out by amateurs from North Brabant. Volendam ended the run in the next round.

The club started life in 1926 as Excelsior, took the name RKVV Halsteren two years later, and settled on RKSV Halsteren. Promotion to the Hoofdklasse, the top tier of Dutch amateur football, came in 1985, and the championship of Hoofdklasse C followed in 1992.

Yellow and black stripes have stayed the shirt since those years, and the club's youth system has sent players higher up the game: Oussama Idrissi passed through it before moving on to Feyenoord and football in Spain, while Matthew Amoah, capped by Ghana, went from Halsteren to Vitesse and Borussia Dortmund. Locally, the fixture that matters is against VV Baronie, the West-Brabant amateur rivalry that outlasts any given season's table.

Three regional cups, in 1989, 1993 and 1995, sit alongside the 1992 league title as the club's collected honours — a modest list next to one cup night against a professional opponent that Halsteren has never quite repeated.
