Katsina United

Katsina United had waited fifteen years for a return to the top flight when the Nigeria National League title finally came in October 2016, pushing the side back into the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The wait went back to 2001, when relegation was followed by the club's disbandment altogether. It took the Katsina State government to bring the team back in 2009, and for years it played under a different name, Spotlights FC, before reverting to Katsina United in February 2016 — just months before the title run that ended the exile.

Before any of that, the club had already gone close domestically, and had even reached the quarter-finals of the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1996. Founded in 1994, the side known as the Changi Boys plays in yellow and green at the 35,000-capacity Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

More recent seasons have leaned on individual moments rather than team runs — Samuel Kalu, signed in 2020, scored in a 3-1 win over Enyimba the following year.
