LPS HD Clinceni

In 2019 a football club from Clinceni reached Liga I for the first time, and two seasons later, under Ilie Poenaru, it finished fifth in the top flight. Then, in 2022, the company behind it went bankrupt and stopped existing. A new legal entity took its place within months, calling itself LPS HD Clinceni, and it insists it is not the administrative successor of the club that had just played in Liga I. Yet it plays in the same town, chose to count 2005 as its own founding year, and carried the story forward all the same.

That year traces back to a merger in Buftea between a local side and Cimentul Fieni. What followed was a decade of renaming and moving: Buftea, then Clinceni from 2013, a spell in Pitești as Academica Argeș, and a return to Clinceni in 2015 under the name that took the club to the top flight before its collapse. The current club, since renamed AC Inter Ilfov, wears white and blue, a break from the black and blue shirts of the Academica years.

Little from that promotion-chasing era survives in the honours the current entity can claim as its own — a Liga IV county title from 2022–23 is what stands under its name, won at the level clubs occupy when they are starting again rather than climbing. The predecessor's record reads differently: a Liga III group title in 2012, two second-place finishes in Liga II, and the run to Liga I itself.

Home games are played at a 4,500-seat ground in Clinceni, and the fixture against FC Voluntari is known locally as the Ilfov Derby. For now, the side that carries the Clinceni name again is doing what it did in 2005: building a record from the lower divisions upward.
