The club grew out of the former sports club ETK in 1997, taking the name Tallas — a blend of Tallinn and the Lasnamägi district — for the men's senior side. That name lasted until the end of the 2008/2009 season; from 2009/2010 the team played on as Tallinna Mistra, a change tied to sponsorship from Mistra-Autex.

Domestically, the club has stayed short of a title. Its best finish in the Estonian Meistriliiga came as HC Tallas, third place in 2003/2004, and neither the league nor the Estonian Cup has been won since. In Europe the club has gone furthest in recent years: the third round of the EHF Challenge Cup in 2024/2025, after second-round exits in the EHF Cup Winners' Cup in 2007/2008 and the EHF Cup in 2004/2005. It also plays every season in the Baltic Handball League without having taken that title either.

Matches against Põlva Serviti carry the sharpest edge of any fixture on the calendar, contested hard without carrying a derby name. Andris Celminš, an Estonian international right back, is among the players most associated with the club's history; Mihkel-Matteus Luik, once on the national team himself, has stayed on afterwards to coach the youth ranks.

None of it has moved the club away from Raasiku. Five hundred seats remain enough for what Mistra draws, in a hall built for a town rather than a capital.
