Ostrov

Regional football in the Karlovy Vary district produced FK Ostrov, formally registered in 1950.

Playing then as RH Ostrov, the club won the I. A třída in 1964 and followed it a year later with the Karlovarský krajský přebor, the regional championship, a result that carried them up into the Divize, then the third level of the Czech pyramid.

Matches against Baník Sokolov give the calendar its fixed point, a regional derby known locally as the "domácí derby" when played at Sokolov's ground. The Stadion U Nemocnice holds 2,000, blue and white are worn under the nickname Ostrováci, and the academy has sent at least one player into the professional game: Vít Turtenwald, born in 1980, came through the Ostrov youth ranks between 1985 and 1994 before moving on to 1. FC Plzeň and a career in the Czech First League with Teplice, Příbram and Bohemians 1905.

Promotion back to the third tier, last touched in 1965, remains the one thing the club has not managed to repeat.
