Płock sits on the Vistula, and its handball identity runs largely through one address: the national association's youth academy, moved there from Gliwice in 2013 after the older school had run since 1997. SMS ZPRP Płock II is the academy's second string, the side where its prospects take league minutes before any call to the first team.

The reserves play in the I Liga, the second tier of Polish women's handball, a division built for teams still working things out. In the 2017/2018 season they finished second in their group and went up — the one line on the club's honours list worth repeating. Recent form has pulled the other way: in 2025/2026 the side has taken two wins from twelve matches, conceding more than it has scored.

Home games are played at Hala Chemika, a 1,200-seat hall shared with the rest of the Płock setup, in red and white. Across town sits Jutrzenka Płock, whose meetings with the SMS side still get called the Derby Płocka regardless of which division either team occupies that year.

What the II team is actually for shows up once the names move on. Monika Kobylińska, Dagmara Nocuń, Aleksandra Rosiak and Natalia Nosek all passed through the same Płock academy before playing for the senior national team — the reserve league working as a corridor rather than a destination. For the squad on the pitch now, the job is narrower: hold a place in the I Liga and keep sending players upward rather than down.
