Sutton Coldfield Town

The Sutton Coldfield Derby has always been a short trip. Boldmere St Michael's play their football a couple of miles across the same town, and the two have shared divisions often enough, currently both in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands.

Sutton Coldfield Town trace themselves back to 1879, when they first took the field against Birmingham's second string on 1 February that year, which makes them one of the older clubs in the region. They spent their early decades at Sutton Park before settling at the Central Ground, known locally as Coles Lane, in the 1930s. The 1960s brought a fire at the ground that stripped the club back to amateur status and a spell in the Worcestershire Combination before they worked their way back up through the senior leagues.

More recently, 2010–11 brought the Birmingham Senior Cup, beaten by nobody after a 1–0 win over Nuneaton Town in the final. Promotion to the Southern League Premier Division followed in 2015 through the play-offs, though the club came back down in 2017–18.

No name is tied to the club quite like Andy Biddle's. "Mr Sutton Coldfield" made 496 appearances in blue and lined up in the FA Cup First Round against Bolton Wanderers, a fixture the club has reached only twice, in 1980–81 and 1992–93.
