Promotion to Liga III in 2017–18 came the hard way, through a play-off.

The club did not start life under its current name. It was founded in 2007 as AS Valea Ursului, and only in 2014, after a merger with AS Bascov, became Unirea Bascov. The nickname, Urșii — the Bears — still traces back to that original name, Valea Ursului, Bear Valley. The club is owned by the Bascov Commune, and the ground, Terenul de fotbal Nicolae Dobrin, sits in Valea Ursului itself, holding 2,000.

Adrian Dulcea, a former Liga I striker, ran the team from 2017 to 2023. The academy has produced Alexandru Ionică, a Romania under-19 international who had a trial at FC Emmen, and the club has sold on players such as Valerio Gallo, who moved to Oțelul Galați.

Since reaching Liga III, matches against ARO Câmpulung have taken on the sharpness of a local derby.
