Uzbekistan arrive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance at the tournament finals in the country's history.
The team formed in 1992, a year after independence, and played its opening fixture against Tajikistan before the Uzbekistan Football Association secured full membership of the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA in 1994.
The best-remembered near miss came at the 2011 Asian Cup, when Valeri Nepomniachi's side reached the semi-finals before Australia beat them 6–0, then lost the third-place match to South Korea 3–2 — still the furthest an Uzbek team has gone in that competition.
Paris 2024 gave the team its first appearance at an Olympic football tournament, though the group stage ended it there, with a defeat to Spain and to Egypt either side of a draw with the Dominican Republic. The Asian Games have been kinder at under-23 level, with bronze in both 2018 and 2022.
