ViOn Zlaté Moravce carry the second-tier Fortuna Liga staple tag into another Slovak top-flight campaign from a town of barely 13,000 people, a scale that has kept the club's ambitions modest even when the results have not been.

The name on the shirt has shifted twice. A club founded on 22 January 1995 as FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce absorbed TJ Calex Zlaté Moravce in 2002 without changing its name, then merged with FK Spartak Vráble in 2016 and became FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce – Vráble, tying two towns to one badge.

The single trophy in the cabinet says more about the club than any run of league finishes: a 4-0 demolition of Senec in the 2006-07 Slovak Cup final, still the high point referenced whenever the club's history comes up.

Zlaté Moravce's clearest claim on the wider game is a name that barely stayed. Milan Škriniar spent a loan spell with the youth side in 2013 before his path ran through Inter and Paris Saint-Germain, a detour few in Slovak football saw coming at the time. Domestically, the goalscoring record belongs to Filip Baláž with 34, though it is the Slovak international traffic through the squad — from Tomáš Hubočan's spell in 2008/09 to a loan by forward Róman Čerepkai in 2023 — that has kept the club connected to the national set-up despite its size.

Games are played at the ViOn Aréna, home since the club's founding, a ground whose official capacity sits at 4,006.
