Ahmad bin Ali Stadium

Ahmad bin Ali Stadium stands in the Rawdat Al Jahhaniya district of Al Rayyan, replacing a structure that was torn down to make way for something built for a specific moment in time. Approximately 90 per cent of the rubble from the demolished 2003 venue was dug up and re-used. The exterior was designed to echo the region's history, while the interior functions on a different logic entirely.

The tiers are split into blocks of red and black, arranged so cleanly that they form a herringbone-like pattern around the pitch. It is a stadium built for the 2022 UEFA World Cup, and it carried the side through the tournament with seven matches hosted, including a Round of 16 encounter that drew the full capacity of 45,032. The upper tier remains visible in the wide shots, a reminder that the footprint will shrink once the event passes. The seats above are slated to be dismantled and sent to developing countries, leaving the ground smaller and quieter in the years to come.

The pitch itself is natural grass, laid by specialists who brought the turf from the United States to survive the summer heat. Underground irrigation and drainage systems keep the surface playable. The stadium is home to Al-Rayyan Sports Club, but it also opened its doors to other clubs when cup football required it. The name honours Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar from 1960 to 1972, anchoring a modern structure to a figure from the past.
