Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena

The Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena sits at the Old Polo Grounds in Maseru. It is not a cathedral of football, but a technical centre, the headquarters for the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA).

The facility was built around 2002, funded by a FIFA programme, and officially opened that same year. It was named after Bambatha Tšita, the late president of Lioli FC, as an honorary tribute rather than a commercial sponsorship. This is a quiet place, often used for youth tournaments and Premier League matches when the main stadium is busy. The capacity is just 1,000 spectators, a number that fits the local scale of the sport here.

There is no attendance record to speak of, and no major club calls this place home. Matlama FC and Lioli FC typically play at Setsoto Stadium, but the Bambatha Tšita arena is used for the Lesotho Independence Cup and other domestic competitions. It is a functional ground, built to last, with no pretensions of grandeur. The air feels different here, closer to the players on the touchline. The league has played many matches here without fanfare, letting the game speak for itself.
