The complex opened in 2016 as the new headquarters for the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the base for the national teams. The venue has natural grass.
The Arena Portugal, which opened in November 2024, is the part of the site that hosts public fixtures. It has been used for home matches by Belenenses SAD and Santa Clara when their own grounds presented difficulties. The pitch at this end of the complex is natural grass; the training pitches on the wider site are the same, which means the surface is consistent across the facility regardless of whether you are watching an international friendly or a cup tie.
The site faces the sea. It is not the main stadium for a professional club in Portugal, but it holds matches when others are unavailable.
