Estádio Dr. Hercílio Luz
Itajaí, Brazil
It is the oldest football stadium still in use in the state of Santa Catarina, a fact that keeps the concrete from feeling quite as tired as it might otherwise. The ground was inaugurated in 1921, named after Hercílio Pedro da Luz, the governor who sanctioned the land for the club. Clube Náutico Marcílio Dias has called it home since the beginning, and the name has never changed, even after the stadium was municipalized in 2006. The capacity is listed at 6,000, though the stands look smaller when empty.
The atmosphere here is defined by the proximity of the residential towers. Marcílio Dias has not won many titles, but the 1963 banner remains, and the fans never stop talking about it.
