The stadium does not look like it was built for a crowd.

The ground has kept its name since it opened in 1982, a direct nod to the FIFA World Cup that Spain hosted that year. It is a quiet place, owned by the Logroño City Council and managed by the Riojan Football Federation. The stands are small, seating just over a thousand people, or perhaps three and a half thousand if you believe the higher figures that circulate. It is not large enough to have hosted any of the World Cup matches, which moved to the bigger Estadio Las Gaunas and Estadio El Sardinero.

For most of its life it has been a resting place for football rather than a destination for it. It holds the reserve team, UD Logroñés II, and various lower-level regional sides that play on the artificial turf field nearby. The main pitch is natural grass, hard and short. The building has seen the first team return here when the main stadium was unavailable.
