FMG Stadium Waikato

FMG Stadium Waikato is not a closed bowl; the Greenzone section runs along one side, leaving a gap that lets the view open onto the surrounding fields. It sits on the same patch of earth as the old Rugby Park. The new structure replaced it in 2002.

The playing surface is the most tangible difference between this venue and many of its predecessors. A Desso hybrid turf was laid down in 2020, making it the first in the North Island to use that specific product. The capacity fluctuates depending on the sport. It also hosted six group matches and a play-off during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, when the capacity was adjusted to 23,100.

The pitch sees the Chiefs in Super Rugby and Waikato in the Bunnings NPC, but the space is expected to see a different kind of crowd soon. The attendance record still sits at 30,804, set during a Rugby World Cup pool match between Wales and Samoa in 2011.
