Fred Zollner Stadium

Angola, United States

Formerly: Shive Field

The stadium stands at 727 Park Ave. It is part of the Trine University campus in Angola, Indiana. The ground replaced an older pitch, Shive Field, which had served the university since the late 1990s before being retired.

The playing surface is artificial turf, laid down in 2020 to resolve persistent drainage issues on the previous natural grass. Floodlights illuminate the field for evening games, allowing the Thunder football team to play beyond sunset. The capacity is 5,000.

The venue carries the name of Fred Zollner, a man who founded the Detroit Pistons and became an NBA Hall of Famer. There is another facility in Fort Wayne with a similar name, a memorial stadium for his softball team, but that is a separate entity, demolished decades after its construction. This ground, opened in 2010, is distinct from that history.

The stadium hosts football, lacrosse and soccer, sharing its space with other university activities.
