GETEC Arena

Magdeburg, Germany

Formerly: Bördelandhalle

The GETEC Arena sits in the Brückfeld district, just east of the Elbe river in Magdeburg. The hall holds 6,600 seats for the primary tenant, SC Magdeburg, a figure achieved only after the installation of extra mobile seating in the summer of 2018.

The arena opened on October 2, 1997. It was not built as a football ground but as a multi-purpose hall, originally called the Bördelandhalle. The name changed to GETEC Arena on July 1, 2011, following a sponsorship agreement. Inside, the floor is not grass but a composite of elastic linoleum and parquet.

The venue has hosted the group stages of the 2007 Men's Handball World Championship and the 2017 Women's World Championship. It also served as the home for the German Women's Indoor Cup finals between 2009 and 2015. The building remains a practical space, its concrete structure housing everything from table tennis tournaments to concerts. The architecture is functional.
