Heidebodenstadion
Parndorf, Austria
Heidebodenstadion is the home of SC-ESV Parndorf 1919.
The capacity is modest, holding 5,000 people, though only 1,500 are seated. This mix of standing and sitting is typical for the Regionalliga Ost, the third tier of Austrian football. It is the only ground in town, so the community gathers here for more than just football. On one occasion in 2004, the stadium hosted a concert by the pop group Austria 3, proving it serves a wider function than just sport.
For the club, the stadium is a stage for upset hopes. In the ÖFB Cup, Parndorf has faced giants like Admira Wacker and SCR Altach. The match against Admira Wacker in 2011/12 was broadcast live on ORF Sport Plus, bringing national attention to a small pitch. More recently, a friendly against FK Austria Wien saw the visitors win 6–0 in front of about 1,000 spectators, showing the ground’s potential to draw a crowd when big names visit.
It is a working stadium. There are no grandstands or luxury boxes, just concrete steps and a perimeter fence. The address is simply Am Sportplatz, reflecting its unpretentious nature. It has never changed its name or undergone a major rebuild, standing as it was nearly thirty years ago.
