Lugazi Stadium

Lugazi Stadium stands in Najjembe, a suburb of the town of Lugazi in the Buikwe District of Uganda, roughly 5 kilometres from the centre of the settlement and near the edge of the Mabira Forest. The ground opened in 2021, though the club only moved its operations there in May 2022, leaving behind the old Mehta Stadium, a facility that held about 1,500 people. This new venue was designed for 20,000 spectators, but the capacity settled in the official records.

Unlike the cramped confines of its predecessor, the new facility was built with FIFA funding, a project valued at over one million dollars, and received support from the Kingdom of Buganda. The pitch plays natural grass, a standard surface for the Uganda Premier League, where the home side, Lugazi FC, now competes after playing in the FUFA Big League. The club’s transition to the new ground coincided with their promotion, a milestone marked by a 3-0 victory over Ndejje University to start the 2023/24 campaign. Before that, they hosted a pre-season friendly against Dream Chasers in September 2023, winning 4-0.

It has not hosted major national finals or large-scale concerts, remaining dedicated to the sport. While the exact builder remains unrecorded, the focus has been on the team’s performance rather than the infrastructure itself.
