Matsumoto Stadium

Matsumoto Stadium, now known as Sunpro Alwin, sits about ten metres lower than the surrounding ground. Built initially as a training base for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the venue has settled into a different rhythm since its original purpose faded. It is the home of Matsumoto Yamaga FC, a club that has called the Kambayashi district its base since 2005.

The playing surface is natural grass without under-soil heating. Capacity figures drift between 20,336 and 20,396 depending on whether standing areas are counted, though these spaces have largely disappeared following J.League regulations. The attendance record for Matsumoto Yamaga’s first J1 League game in 2015 holds at 17,000.

While the stadium hosts international friendlies for teams such as Colombia and Peru during the Kirin Cup, the name changed in October 2018 when Sunpro purchased the naming rights, a transition that marked the end of its tenure as Matsumotodaira Park Stadium. Ownership remains with Nagano Prefecture, operated by TOY BOX, ensuring the facility stays focused on its primary function regardless of commercial shifts.
