The name on the door is One New Zealand Stadium , a commercial deal that runs until 2036, but the locals still call it Te Kaha — strength. That name arrived after the project changed its tune several times, shedding the label of the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena.

It sits on Madras Street, a quiet stretch of road that suddenly carries the weight of a new era for the city. The Crusaders play here now, and the provincial rugby union team, having left the old ground behind. It is a place built for noise, currently holding its breath.
