The building has been a home for indoor sport since it opened in 1971, though it has seen other uses. It is known locally as La Catedral , a name given by supporters who fill the 3,000 seats on match days. The arena sits within the grounds of the SCDR Anaitasuna club, and the court surface is a synthetic hard court rather than wooden parquet.

The most crowded nights come for the Copa del Rey de Balonmano. The final of the 2015–16 tournament was held here, and the crowd pushed past the official limit to 3,800. The final match saw FC Barcelona Lassa defeat the host team, Helvetia Anaitasuna, by a single goal. The stadium also hosted the quarter-finals of the LNFS in 2016, when Magna Gurpea played ElPozo Murcia. The venue has also hosted concerts, including a performance by the band Barricada in 1988.
