The Sparekassen Danmark Basketball Center sits within the Vejlby-Risskov Idrætscenter complex in Aarhus. The hall was opened in 1969. While it serves as the home for the Bakken Bears basketball club, it carries a different weight in local memory.
It is better known for the night Jimi Hendrix played his final concert here, a performance that lasted barely ten minutes. The Rolling Stones were also here, after a bomb threat turned out to be false.
The capacity is listed as 1,900, though it has seen larger numbers. Deep Purple drew an estimated 5,000 people here in 1972.
This is not a ground for football, and it does not try to be one. The lights come on for the Bears, but they also came on for Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.
